Each year the History Department faculty selects one or more students majoring in history to receive the Marilyn Munsell McNitt Research and Professional Development Grant, which supports research or attendance at a professional conference. Recipients have used the grant to purchase historical resources unavailable on our campus and to defray the cost of research trips to Detroit, Massachusetts, England, and Ireland. Award winners present their research during 91Â鶹’s annual Ribbons of Excellence Day conference.

This award was established in 2014 by the McNitt family to honor the memory of Marilyn Munsell McNitt, ‘73. Marilyn was an outstanding history student at 91Â鶹 and a loyal alumna. Her husband, Bill, and daughters, Sarah and Rebecca, share her love of history and decided that assisting history students at Marilyn’s alma mater was an appropriate way to commemorate her life.
